Early in day of February 21, 2016, before Marawi City has yet to be fully awakened, a group of Dansalan College alumni gathered just outside their alma mater to commence the day's agenda: My Lake Lanao Project in Guimba Lilod, Marawi City.
My Lake Lanao Project is spearheaded by 1DC--the alumni association of Dansalan College Foundation Inc.--and line agencies as well as the National Power Corporation.
The project's main objective is to promote conservation of Lake Lanao through tree planting activities, community reach out programs, and education of young students about the importance of protecting the Lake.
Ranao Spotlight crew was with us--Najib Zacaria and Al- Asmari Macalabao.
The good men of the Armed Forces who facilitated the tree planting activity.
Guimba Lilod Primary School was the chosen school where the storytelling activity was conducted.
I realized how fun it is to photograph kids. They are just natural. They look good in whatever angle, they don't easily get tense nor try to pose in an unnatural way.
Ms. Baicon Cayongcat-Macaraya, president of 1DC, headed the storytelling activity where she told the story of Amuki, a child whose family's sustenance depends on Lake Lanao.
The day was beautiful. The way the lighting brought out the vivid colors made me want to photograph everything.
The pupils of Guimba Lilod Primary School had fun as much as the volunteers did.
Kudos to Kuya Dino for being the most competitive volunteer, most active coach during the games.
They received notebooks and pencils after they were given snacks and lunch packs.
Farmers also received seeds to help them be more productive especially now that many of their crops failed due to El Nino.
The activity concluded in a lunch-meeting hosted by the chairman of Guimba. During the meeting, residents of Guimba expressed their needs and the representatives of DENR, DA, DAR, and MSU College of Forestry responded to their concerns.
I will follow this story until we see the results In Shaa Allah.
